We’ve all heard the debate, Function over Form, Form over Function and when it comes to Subaru owners, Purists beware…you might actually enjoy this feature.  This beauty is Kyle Orsburn’s, an 08′ Subaru STi Hatchback and he’s got the best of both function and form.  I first saw Kyle’s STi at a local meet called Cars and Clouds and was instantly drawn to it.  I didn’t initially meet the man behind the wheel but after doing a little research on Facebook, I found him and setup this shoot.

The immediate feature of Kyle’s car that stood out to me the most is the black on black.  Not many cars can pull it off but with this car has the right stuff to do just that.  He is currently sitting on Tein S-Tech lowering springs on stock shocks and struts paired with Avid. 1 AV-20 wheels (18X9.5 +38) and wrapped in Hancook (265/35/18) tires.  Choosing to shoot this car in the grass may give the illusion that this car is slammed, but the STi font lip gives the car that “low performance” look, something Kyle intended for.  A custom pair of black housed headlights with LED signal lights and 6K high and low beam HID really compliment the front end and give it that aggressive mug.

The interior is fairly simple and ideal.  Featuring a TSW Short Shifter, topped with a  WC Lathewerks Black Shift Knob.  A 3 gauge pillar accent with functional working gagues, LED interior lighting and a wired up amp and sub is all you really need.  The dash and center console plastics are painted red to give the interior some contrast and hint at the rally heritage.

Now for the best part…what kind of power is this car making?  Some people will never get the chance to build their car the way they want to and if they do it either takes a few years or they have it all done in one shot.  Kyle’s build kind of happened by some weird circumstance.  When he bought the car, it already had some basic bolt on’s but Kyle went a bit further…he wanted to make power and lots of it.  Because of the weird circumstance, he had to completely re-build his motor starting with a 3,500 mile long block and with a little help from Motion Lab Tuning located in Charlotte, NC his dream became a reality.  His current numbers are 501 whp and 483 wtq on 93 octane.

Words from the Owner:  “I got the car off Craigslist after I sold my 2004 WRX.  It came with the turbo, front mount, and supporting mods when I bought it a year ago.  Back in February on a snowy day I was having a little too much fun and cracked a piston ring, requiring a re-build or a new motor.  I decided to build it and go all out with the parts I already had.  Its been a blast but Im ready for something different and will be selling.  I will admit, it’s not the best daily driver Iv’e ever had, but it’s near the top of the list.  I would like to thank Motion Lab Tuning for helping me with my build as well as my friends and family.”

I know this isn’t the last time I see Kyle or his beast of a machine and I can only hope that his next car is just a dope as this one.  I hope this feature has appealed to both the function and form enthusiasts out there because even though we made be at different ends of the spectrum, we all share the same love, respect, and passion for the same things…our cars.
