Farr Out: Christian Farr’s Scion XB

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (Well it actually wasn’t too long ago) we met Chris at our Pre-Wekfest meet in San Bruno, CA. Quite a distance from his Rancho Cucamonga roots. He drove up because he was showing his car at Wekfest the next day. I was immediately drawn to his slammed Scion because I had never seen it before. It’s not very often that LA cars drive up en-masse to San Francisco. This is where our journey to shoot his car began. If you don’t quite recognize the backdrop it’s in the downtown area of Long Beach. SF to Rancho to Long Beach? What is going on here?

We had planned to meet Chris downtown for some of that compact urban Socal vibe to complement his Scion and the location couldn’t have been better.

SWAY x CDM (Chelsea DeNofa Motorsports)

Our friends over at SWAY have been helping us make our new shirts recently (hint hint) but in the mean time they’ve managed to come out with these dope Chelsea DeNofa Motorsports collaboration shirts. For those of you who don’t know, Chelsea is a 2 time XDC champion who has been rising in the ranks in recent years. He is definitely someone to look out for, in fact, you may have spotted him at Formula D Long Beach a few months back, he was driving the sick purple and gold e36.

The SWAY x CDM shirt features an athletic “CD” monogram on the left chest and on the back it sports “Denofa Motorsports” as well as a SWAY STKR Bomb which forms Chelsea’s number, the number 88.

Support the movement and buy your tee at SWAY’s new online store: swaygear.bigcartel.com

JDM Chicago Season Opener 2012.

The JDMC Season Opener was a Rain or Shine event, and lets just say the weather was really pushing that statement. The entire day was a constant downpour, but luckily it let off a bit so I could wrap my camera up in a plastic bag and get some shots before it poured again. Despite the insane amount of rain there was still a great turn out, there were even people out of state that made the drive out to the meet. Huge props to Ginash and all the people from JDMC that helped organize this awesome event.

So now for a bit of background info about JDMC: “The Chicago-based online magazine & community. We started out with a mission is to feature rare and modified Japanese cars from the Chicagoland/Midwest area. We have since expanded by covering cars and events on a national and global level.  Additionally, we hope to bring together the automotive community and give recognition to the people that make it what it is.” It was started in 2009 by Ginash. Check out their forum at: http://www.jdmchicago.com. Ginash explained: “We really wanted to do a blog and start featuring local cars. It has expanded since then and now we do alot more stuff on a national level. When we first started it, no one was doing anything like it in Chicago, so I talked to alot of the local media guys and we launched it around June of 2009.” Now enjoy JDM Enthusiast’s heaven!

Just thought I’d leave this here ;) . Just did a re-edit of a photo from Harjeet’s feature. If you haven’t seen the feature you should definitely check it out here. Something different from the norm of the VIP scene. The car has definitely come a long way from this feature. Check out the lastest pix of it in my last post. Relay for Life.

Auto Mass Part 2- Car Show Coverage

You’ve seen some of the Street Drift cars from the Windy City and now for a sample of the rest of the car scene from the area. There were plenty of unique builds on display, there was even a Toyota Starlet there! Rather than just telling you what was there I will just let you see for yourself!

Relay for Life Carshow

26
This past weekend Relay for Life held their first carshow in Tracy. CxH of course had to be there, we’re a big supporter of finding cures for cancer. The show was a great way to raise awareness and it was a pretty good turnout! There were cars and bikes from all different scenes; jdm, euro, muscle, old school, etc. Enough talk, your here to see the cars right? :)

Auto Mass Round 1 | Part 1

All I can say is WOW. This was the first Drift event that I have ever attended and it was absolutely incredible! There were some outstanding drivers and cars out there. With that said I’d like to give a quick shout out to The Risky Devils for coming out, they put on a fantastic display for the spectators! A few of my personal favorite cars from the Drifting portion would be a gorgeous Z31 300zx, 1JZ swapped Nissan Hardbody, a very clean pearl white FC RX7, and a Formula Drift FD RX7. I hope that Auto Mass continues and has more events over the summer, because the event they threw was outstanding. It gave me goosebumps to watch the advanced class dive into the corners at such insane entry speeds and keep complete control all the way through. Although there were some very close calls the drivers all were able to react quickly to avoid cars that had spun out.  Click “READ MORE” to enjoy pictures of the drifting portion of Auto Mass Round 1 2012! Stay tuned for coverage of the car show that also took place at Auto Mass.

Armand’s Devil Horned Widebody Mr2 Feature| PVRmotorsports x CarsxHype

photos, words and video by Michael “Mikey” Dang

Honestly one of the most extensive shoots I have ever done. Getting to the secret location to meet up with Armand, I think we started shooting around 7PM. Planned out each motion shot out to actually feature himself as well into a mini story. Had originally planned a multiday shoot for multi locations but had decided to stick with a single location sufficed enough into an epic turnout of the final video product as you see before you. Having spent about 5 hours in that structure, I learned many things about Armand’s car history on the beginning stages of white to what is now the “Red Devil”. Every bit of the car has a story behind it especially the wing how it is a custom 1-off from a Corolla but had been chopped and redone to fit his MR-2 but then broken by someone leaning on it. Armand explained to me that there was no point in fixing something for so much money to have it broken again. All in all, it is just something to live with and it shows that he truly daily drives his car and it’s not just a showboat. I had the pleasure to learn more and more about not just the car but about Armand but I’ll leave that to others to meet him in person to know how down to earth he is.

Thank you again Armand for the opportunity for letting me shoot your car.
