Passion is an abstraction which is indefinitely impossible to explain to another person. To explain why you have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours on a car that will never be finished is very confusing to most people. To explain why you would wake up at 4AM to to drive to an event in which you park your car all day is also very perplexing. Welcome to Seven Stock 16, the largest Mazda Rotary event in America. From track to stance, everything Rotary is welcome to join in this commemoration of Mazda ingenuity.

Roll call started early Saturday morning at 6am. Before people could roll in, we lined the cars up by generation.

Although I haven’t slept right in the past few days and have been running around taking pictures for hours, I am still very humbled to be part of this experience. Passion drives me to work hard. It’s not about the money or the fame, but for the people I love to work with. I hope to see you guys next year!

Shut Up and Take My Money l Chris’ Evo X http://carsxhype.com/2013/09/29/shut-up-and-take-my-money-l-chris-evo-x/ http://carsxhype.com/2013/09/29/shut-up-and-take-my-money-l-chris-evo-x/#comments Sun, 29 Sep 2013 21:38:27 +0000 http://carsxhype.com/?p=27802 1

Individuality. It is the driving force which fuels car enthusiasts to build cars that not only baffle the media, but also galvanize them into fabricating their own sense of individuality. To which extent will one surpass to secure that individuality? Many cars in the game succumb to a cookie-cutter impression of this concept. With a modest set of wheels and a visual body drop, pretty much any person can say their car is idiosyncratic. Chris’ 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X is anything but average. His Evo X is laded with individuality and character.

Chris first saw the Evo X when he was 16, and he knew right away that it was his dream car. Having a clean look with an aggressive demeanor was the goal for his car.

“Although I am running on Varrstoens, I did it different from everyone else and went through the trouble of getting 1 piece rims powdercoated and also repolished. Not only that, I even made some custom center caps for them.”

13

12
For being in the game for one season, Chris has gained lots of ground in the car scene. He plans to drastically change the Evo X for next season. Maybe he will make a track beast, or maybe he will go even lower with another set of wheels and aero. All we know is that Chris will break necks with a showroom quality car.

Game Changer | Not your typical Galant. http://carsxhype.com/2012/12/03/straight-stunner-not-your-typical-galant/ http://carsxhype.com/2012/12/03/straight-stunner-not-your-typical-galant/#comments Tue, 04 Dec 2012 02:54:52 +0000 http://carsxhype.com/?p=23010

I’m going to be honest, the first time I saw Jigz’s Galant It took me awhile to realize it is in fact a Galant. I couldn’t believe how aggressive it looked and I had never in my life seen a tuned Galant prior to seeing Jigz’s. But let me say this, he has done a phenomenal job making an average car into a Jaw dropping sexy beast. Yep, a sexy beast. I love everything about his Galant, the paint color is perfect- it draws just enough attention for people to look at it and try to figure out what the masterpiece they are looking at is but it doesn’t scream for attention. The fitment, its spot on in my opinion! Just the slightest stretch on the tires makes it fit so well but still keeps its performance since he plans to track this Galant this coming spring.

Jigz said “I have been into cars for as long as I could remember.  Honestly, it is my life.  It’s my hobby, my career, and the one permanent thing I’ve had my whole life besides family.  It’s my failsafe.  Something I know when everything else goes down the shitter, I can turn to and make everything better.  Atleast for a little while.”

Jigz actually didn’t plan on modifying a Galant. It’s a long story and is a whole lot of history but let’s just say, when it was handed down to him, he was planning on selling it for a 2G GSX but got caught up in it and as cliché as it sounds, he developed a sentimental attachment that he couldn’t understand to it.  He just couldn’t see himself building anything else and that is how it came to be. He got the car in 2005, put coilovers on it in 2006 and from there it just got better and better till it came to be what it is now.

I asked him what his future plans for it are and he said “I build it for my own personal satisfaction so as far as future plans, nothing is set in stone.  This car in my heart, is never done.  Though, I know the motor with close to 130k is going to let go sooner or later so whatever I come up with either a built 4G64 with a 4G63 head, FP RED, and cams or a bone stock EVO8 4G63T.  Either way an LSD trans is in the plans along with a roll cage and better suspension components.  I want to track it, too many people build “track oriented” cars that are hard parked way too much.  One thing I wish I did different this year is that if I could have skipped the paint to do more events I would.  But everything happens for a reason and the paint job was a wedding present from my friends.”

Jigz’s love for cars started when he used to tag along with the “cool” kids to the races back when he was in the Philippines, and when he moved to the states he was about 12. He consistently bugged his uncles to bring him to all the shows and races they attended.  He said he has been in the “scene” for a while but feels the he and the Galant have only started to emerge this past couple of years.

He said “My favorite part about the Galant is definitely the fact that I built her with my own two hands and no matter what she starts right up.  There are days where she likes to act like a typical Mitsubishi, but it is nothing BabyG and I don’t get through together. lol.  It’s a whole lot of work to keep her reliable, but it is something I obsess over because, what good is a car if it mostly sits in the garage than driven all the time?”

Jigz said “I would be lying if I said there weren’t any cars on the Galant forums I wanted to copy.  But as time went by, I discovered the style I wanted slowly.  I know I wanted to keep it USDM as most of the Galants on the forums were going with JDM conversions and such but the color was back and forth there were days I wanted to keep it silver and there were days I wanted to paint it a different color.  Up until the week before we painted it I contemplated keeping it silver.  But the t70 paint found its way into my gun and onto the car.”

Polar Opposite Evo’s| Function vs. Form. http://carsxhype.com/2012/07/18/polar-opposite-evos-function-vs-form/ http://carsxhype.com/2012/07/18/polar-opposite-evos-function-vs-form/#comments Wed, 18 Jul 2012 18:27:36 +0000 http://carsxhype.com/?p=21298

Pick your jaw back up off the floor and wipe the drool off your face, because those 3 pictures are just the start. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has been around since 1992 starting with the Evo I, and is still being produced today, only now they are on the 10th Generation; Both of these Evo’s are 10th Generation (Evo X). The Evo was originally produced to compete in the World Rally Championship, but they have been tuned for many other uses as displayed here. The White Evo is Track Ready while the the Black Evo is aimed more for show with its slammed stance. Its incredible how different one car can look so outstanding tuned for so many different styles. I’m sure for now you are all itching to see more pictures of both of these masterpieces, so go ahead and scroll down!

Raymond’s Track ready 2008 WW Evo X GSR:

Lets start off with the beginning of his car- Raymond originally decided to buy an Evo X because he saw potential to make it look and drive like a track monster in it. So he built it around the track theme with a lot of sharp edges. The reason why he bought the car in white was because all of the aftermarket Carbon Fiber and black pieces available for the Evo X contrast well with the white thus enhancing each of the offset color pieces. When deciding what style to go with for the appearance of his Evo his inspirations were from Cyber Evo along with a little bit of slammed lifestyle which is where the super aggressive wheel spec came into play. Raymond’s Daily Driver is a stanced Scion xB.

Raymond’s License plate really sums up his car, and I’m sure you all agree on that.

The Canards, lip and race mirrors really give the front end a functional and sinister look.

Welcome to the Dark Side| Geoff’s Slammed 2010 EVO X MR:

Now, Geoff’s Evo is pretty much the exact opposite of Raymond’s. He loves the slammed/street look. Low and fat. VIP look but not too extreme. This is his Daily Driver, lucky for him this winter he wont need to shovel because he will have a snow plow at that low of ride height! The current set-up is only a month old so his plans include additions rather than changes which include a Rear Diffuser, Tinting the windows, racing seats and a turbo kit. He got his Evo when his girlfriend traded in her old eclipse and there was a black MR with everything I wanted at the dealership. He had wanted an EVO for awhile because they are somewhat practical. Of course he thought, “Oh what a great car for the city and winters”, but then he lowered it with 20mm spacers about a month after getting it, and that was just the start of it.

I love the contrast between the paint and the wheels, it helps draw attention to the incredible stance of Geoff’s Evo.

Formula D 2012 Round 1: Streets of Long Beach, main event coverage http://carsxhype.com/2012/04/17/formula-d-2012-round-1-streets-of-long-beach-main-event-coverage/ http://carsxhype.com/2012/04/17/formula-d-2012-round-1-streets-of-long-beach-main-event-coverage/#comments Tue, 17 Apr 2012 10:16:00 +0000 http://carsxhype.com/?p=19700 Photo and words by RJ Deslate, video by Mikey Dang

fdlongbeach2012part2-2
Formula D is back again and how awesome can the inaugural event would be when it is held Long Beach Grand Prix track utilizing turn 9, 10 and 11. Yes, they are literally using the streets of long beach. For this season, there has been an abundant amount of rookies and one of them already built a huge fan base stateside. His name is Daigo Saito and he is the reigning Formula D asia champion and D1GP japan champion.
fdlongbeach2012-10
He is currently driving this Lexus SC430 built by Bridges Racing and running on Achilles tire rubber and under the hood; it sports a 2jz-gte producing around 1200 HP!!
fdlongbeach2012-6
During the beginning of the Formula D season, one would usually see drivers with different teams, vehicles and sponsors and for this year, Drift Alliance OG, Ryan Tuerck is one of them. He now drives the Retaks LS3 powered s13.5 rocking fifteen52 wheels on Maxxis tire rubber. He seems very comfortable with the car and ended up being the number one qualifier in the qualifying rounds.
fdlongbeach2012-14
Now for the Main event …. click READ MORE to continue . . .

————————————————————————————————————————–

fdlongbeach2012part2-4
The sight of Beautiful Long Beach, CA and the smell of burning tires. It must be the season opener for Formula D. Oh how I miss hearing the tire screeching and the roar of the v8s but what I miss the most is the intensity and the spirit that is brought by the fastest rising motor-sports.

fdlongbeach2012part2-3
The tickets were soldout like hotcakes that they ended up selling standing only seats during the event day.

fdlongbeach2012part2-5
Although, I did spot some long beach locals who were so desperate to experience the art of sliding that they had to climb fences to be baptized in this diverse and exciting motor-sport.

fdlongbeach2012
Round 1 started out with a lot of unexpected mishaps . . .
fdlongbeach2012part2
fdlongbeach2012part2-6
With 1/3 of the driver’s roster are rookies, a good amount of them had a little taste with the walls at Long Beach Grand Prix street track.

fdlongbeach2012part2-10
Although the rookies weren’t the only ones affected by the Long Beach gremlins; veterans like Darren McNamara weren’t able to escape the walls of Long Beach.
fdlongbeach2012part2-12
fdlongbeach2012part2-13
The status of his car is still unknown if it can still be repaired by ASD.
fdlongbeach2012part2-11
Although I am sure if he ends up driving another car in Round 2, he should still be able to come out strong and with a statement.

fdlongbeach2012part2-16
2010 Formula D champion, Vaughn Gittin Jr., is certainly sure that Long Beach is not his favorite course. This is the 2nd year that he wasn’t able to make it to the TOP 16 in Long Beach. With this new found spare time, he ended up spending his time with the fans and giving away some gifts for their support in the sport of drifting.

Since this was the season opener, there were a couple of marquees and highlights for the event. . .

fdlongbeach2012-4
The competitive debut of the greddy Scion FR-S that is driven by Ken Gushi . . .

fdlongbeach2012part2-7
The return of Former Formula D judge, Tony Angelo, as a driver and is now driving the Turbocharged 2az-fe powered RWD tc1 that was formerly piloted by Ken Gushi.

fdlongbeach2012-8
The infamous Bill Baldwin, otherwise known as the Balls of Steal since he is pretty much what you would call a human clipping point. He would have drifting cars inches away from him and still wouldn’t flinch . . .

fdlongbeach2012-5
and for that and many reasons, he quickly became a fan favorite

fdlongbeach2012-2
Daijiro Yoshihara, the 2011 Formula D champion, had a huge fan base following him . . .

Now for the competition . . .

fdlongbeach2012-7
Powers was faced against Ryan Tuerk in Top 16 and eliminated him with his new purpose built zenki s14 sporting an LS7 v8 under the hood.

fdlongbeach2012-13
Gushi and the FR-S was faced against Odi Backchis and his LS1 powered Kouki s14, Gushi takes the win and moves into the great 8.

fdlongbeach2012-2-2
Dai Yoshihara was faced against 2011 Rookie of the year, Fredric Aasbo in his Turbocharged 2AR powered RWD tc2. Sadly, the turbo 4 wasn’t enough for the Dai’s LS V8.

fdlongbeach2012-9
fdlongbeach2012-11
Yoshioka and his RSR S15 was faced against the 2009 Formula D champion, Chris Forsberg and his Titan powered 370z and the former Champion was able to slide away on this one.

fdlongbeach2012-4-2
In the great 8; Rookie phenomena, Daigo Saito, was faced against veteran driver Tyler Mcquarrie that now drives the Gardella Racing/Yokohama tires/ Mobil 1 Chevrolet Camaro. When I took this picture, I thought Mcquarrie initiated with an incredible reverse entry in turn 10 . . .

fdlongbeach2012-12
… but instead Mcquarrie ends up being one of the victims of Long Beach’s gremlins. Daigo Saito moves to the semi-finals.

fdlongbeach2012-3-2
Forsberg was faced against his Drift Alliance buddy, Justin Pawlak in the Great 8 and in the end Pawlak’s Falken Tire/ASD mustang wins and moves to the semi-finals.

fdlongbeach2012-6-2
In the semi-finals, Daigo Saito was faced against 2011 Champion, Daijiro Yoshihara, and Dai’s Rocket Bunny s13 was able to hold its tires down and send Daigo Saito and his sc430 to the consolation round.

fdlongbeach2012-5-2
On the other side of the semi-finals, Matt Powers was faced against his favorite driver, Justin Pawlak. Unfortunately for Powers, Justin Pawlak was having one of those good days and was able to send Matt Powers to the consolation round and will be going against Daigo Saito.

fdlongbeach2012-14
For the battle for 3rd Place, Daigo Saito was faced against the surfing, happy go lucky Matt Powers and luckily for Saito, he was able to out slid Matt and made a statement on his rookie debut my giving himself a podium spot.

fdlongbeach2012-7-2
In the finals, it was a battle between two falken teammates. Dai in his Discount Tire/Falken Tire/ SPD metal works rocket bunny s13 against Justin in his ASD, Falken Tire, Drift Alliance 2013 mustang.

fdlongbeach2012-8-2
After their intense tandem, Justin and Dai waited patiently for the results and shook each others hand in the name of sportsmanship.

fdlongbeach2012-9-2
As seconds turning into days, the winner was announce, and Justin Pawlak was named the winner Formula D round 1 in Long Beach for the second consecutive year.

fdlongbeach2012-3
Pawlak doing his victory donuts.

Here’s a video montage of Formula D 2012 Round 1: streets of Long Beach done by Mikey Dang of PVR motorsports in collaboration with Dayuum.com and yours truly.

Manny’s Show stoppin & Boosted tC http://carsxhype.com/2011/12/19/mannys-showstopping-boosted-tc/ http://carsxhype.com/2011/12/19/mannys-showstopping-boosted-tc/#comments Mon, 19 Dec 2011 08:59:59 +0000 http://carsxhype.com/?p=16849 Photos by John Kingston, Words by Ali Smailey

Scion. United by individuality. That is the slogan we Scion owners live by, some for better and some for worse by the form in which we build our cars from bone stock to fully formed show vehicles. In this very rare case, Scion tc owner Manny, has taken scion pride to the full extent by a combination of precise decision making for parts that the finished product looks as stunning as this. From the very words of Manny himself, he states that his tc was given to him as a present for graduating high school. Blessed much? I think so! I can relate to him in the very same way as my parents bought me my tc for the same reason. His tc was quite frankly the very first one I really got to meet and really kept me inspired to modify mine to this very date. The way the car scene really degrades these cars just because they have a scion badge and the few rotten apples that make us look bad out there should really think twice about this tc. . .

Carsxhype.com

Carsxhype.com
One of the most recent and major change he has done, and which I have had the opportunity to help with, was to mount his SSR Sp3 wheels, a huge step up from a previous Volk evo 3 setup that just scream cleanliness and add fine touches to the body lines of the car.

Carsxhype.com

As tuners, we’ve gone through those times in our modding lives when we have added so many unappealing parts and decals that we forget we may have turned into a true ricer! Manny says he relates to this and adds that, “my car wouldn’t be where it is right now if it wasn’t for the people that supported me in everything I did. I would like to thank my parents, and most importantly my girlfriend who was there for me through thick and thin. “In the scion community there aren’t many tc’s so well executed like Manny’s, and he sure as hell makes me proud to be an owner and better yet a friend. His shout outs go out to the following:
*Jimmy from wellbuilt
*Scion Evolution
*Lisa from Island Motorsport

Autocon is an automotive enthusiast event dedicated to be in partnership with a charitable organization and for the second time ever; Autocon has partnered with US Marines’ Toys for Tots organization so that the automotive enthusiast community will have a chance to give back to the less fortunate.

This is the second year for Autocon and this is my second time going, compared to last year’s underground show, it was held at the O.C. Great Park in Irvine. Yes, this year it is in an open field and did I mention that there are about 450+ quality cars that were present at the show.

I rolled in early to the show with our friends from Dayuum & PVR motorsports, to help them setup their collaboration booth. We had a little challenge on positioning the booth and organizing the cars but through the power of swag, everything went smoothly. Sadly, I was too busy helping them out for me to take snaps of our little challenge although I have a good amount of pictures of the show. CLICK “READ MORE” for more read and pics

autocon2011part1-3 Once I got in I was greeted with this eye catching and classy Honda Accord, rarely do you see these cars modified well like this.

autocon2011part1-4 Alongside with the accord is another accord with honda inspire headlights.

autocon2011part1-6 Well fitted Hyundai Genesis Coupe on some deep dished concave wheels.

autocon2011part1-12 Looks like this xB got its Christmas present a little early.

autocon2011part1-13 I guess Hella Fass Dooo isn’t an exclusive scion club anymore.

autocon2011part1-14 Like a Boss perhaps?

autocon2011part1-15

autocon2011part1-16 I have mix feelings with the exterior design of this xB, but good job on being unique.

autocon2011part1-17 I wouldn’t mind one of these.

autocon2011part1-18 I know it is a little Cliche but this is my dream car and my future car.

autocon2011part1-19 This Fiat actually looks pretty sick.
